Parlamentul European (PE) a adoptat o rezoluție, prin care solicită mai multe sancțiuni împotriva R. Belarus în urma deturnării zborului Ryanair. Eurodeputații solicită și măsuri economice, dar și sectoriale rapide care să vizeze principalele industrii din Belarus, în special sectorul țițeiului și al produselor petroliere, al potasei, al oțelului și al prelucrării lemnului. Sprijinul financiar acordat regimului trebuie strict refuzat, precum și orice noi linii de credit pentru băncile țării, iar investițiile în infrastructură sau în întreprinderi economice trebuie oprite. Instituțiile financiare europene trebuie împiedicate să achiziționeze obligațiuni sau orice alt instrument financiar emis de Guvernul belarus și de instituțiile publice afiliate. Rezoluția solicită, de asemenea, ca Belarus să fie suspendat din organismele sportive internaționale și de la evenimentele internaționale, inclusiv de la campionatele europene și mondiale, precum și de la Jocurile Olimpice de la Tokyo.
